Maiti Nepal is an organisation created by the former minister for women and children in the Nepali government, Anuradha Koirala. Maiti Nepal is an organization fighting to end human trafficking and slavery of young girls in Nepal. On top of prevention, Maiti Nepal rescue, rehabilitate and then reintegrate the survivors of sex trafficking back into society.
Deborah Halpern believes every person can make a difference. Halpern has worked with the Maiti women, teaching them handcrafts and has held exhibitions to raise funds and awareness for the cause.
Today, with her sculptural pieces fetching handsome sums, Halpern donates $5,000 to $25,000 annually to any number of charitable organisations and causes.
